WHO IS THE DONOR WAITING FOR?

(based on the materials of Social Impact: Planning for Success course by Philanthropy University)

The donors often had to explain to the community their primary goals and functions only a few years ago. However, the time is changing and our society is also changing. The demand for donor services is increasing yearly. Thereby, it is increasingly important for donors to choose an appropriate project for funding.

Thus, who is the donor waiting for?

We are looking for answer together with Shashi Buluswar, who is the co-founder and CEO of the Institute for Transformative Technologies and teaches in the Center for Social Sector Leadership at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkley, in accordance with materials of Social Impact: Planning for Success course by Philanthropy University.

  1. Donors pay attention to the sustainability of your project results and sustainability of your organization (criteria of sustainability).

  2. There is no mistake. The donors are concerning your organization sustainability. The sustainable results of your single project do not provide the guarantee of long-term success. In additional, the experts of Philanthropy University course suggest reading an article “What's Your End Game” by Elise Gugelev and Andrew Stern to increase your acknowledgment in the current question.

  3. The likelihood that your project will flourish is also rather important for donor.

  4. Your ability to deal effectively with unexpected negative impacts of your project are also rather important for donor (unintended consequences).

The donor will be waiting for you in case of the following activity

  1. Make a plan to create sustainable impact.

  2. Brainstorm potential unintended consequences of your own work.

  3. Identify risks that may impact your probability of success.

Who is the donor waiting for? Maybe it is you!
